What is the real meaning of Tauheed?
Tauheed means Believe in the oneness of Allah in all aspects.
Say: He is Allah the One and Only; (Quran 112 : 1)
And never there has been anyone co-equal with him.
(Quran 112 : 4)
The first religious fundamental to which Allah’s Messenger (PBUH) called to, was Aqeeda Tauheed (the Oneness of Allah), which is expressed by the testification, ‘La ilaha illa Allah’ (meaning, none has the right to be worshiped except Allah).
The Prophet PBUH remained in Makkah for thirteen years;
out of those thirteen years, for ten years alone, he called people
towards Tauheed and forbade them from shirk.
and not calling towards any other aspect of the religion.
This is because the correct belief (Aqeedah e tauheed) is the foundation of Islam.
He was not commanded with the prayer nor with the zakaat nor with fasting nor with Hajj (the Pilgrimage). Rather his call was restricted to warning against shirk and to commanding tauheed.
All prophets of Islam calling towards Tauheed and warned against shirk.
And to the Thamud people, (We sent) their brother Saleh. He said: “O my people! Worship Allah, you have no other deity but Him… [Quran 11:61]
And to the people of Midian We sent their brother Shu’aib. He said, “O my people! Worship Allah. You have no god other than Him… [Quran 11:84]
and sent to them a Messenger (Hud) from among themselves, who said to them: "Worship Allah! You have no other god except Him… [Quran 23:32]
We surely sent a messenger to every community, saying, “Worship Allah and shun false gods.”… [Quran 16 : 36]
We sent Noah to his people, and he said, “O my people, worship God. You have no deity other than Him… [Quran 7 : 59]
And (We sent) Ibrahim when he said to his people, .Worship Allah and fear Him. That is better for you if you know. [Quran 29 : 16]
We sent all messengers before you with this revelation: There is no deity save Me, so worship Me alone.
[Quran 21:25]
So, believing in Tawhid is the most important right of all—nothing comes before it.
It comes before even the rights of parents.
Some authentic Hadiths on the importance of Tauheed:
Narrated Ibn `Abbas:
When the Prophet (ﷺ) sent Mu`adh to Yemen, he said to him, "You are going to a nation from the people of the Scripture, so let the first thing to which you will invite them, be the Tauhid of Allah. If they learn that, tell them that Allah has enjoined on them, five prayers to be offered in one day and one night. And if they pray, tell them that Allah has enjoined on them Zakat of their properties and it is to be taken from the rich among them and given to the poor. And if they agree to that, then take from them Zakat but avoid the best property of the people."
[Sahih al-Bukhari 7372]
Narrated Mu`adh bin Jabal:
The Prophet (ﷺ) said, "O Mu`adh! Do you know what Allah's Right upon His slaves is?" I said, "Allah and His Apostle know best." The Prophet (ﷺ) said, "To worship Him (Allah) Alone and to join none in worship with Him (Allah). Do you know what their right upon Him is?" I replied, "Allah and His Apostle know best." The Prophet (ﷺ) said, "Not to punish them (if they do so).
[Sahih al-Bukhari 7373]
If your belief in Aqeeda e Tauheed [belief in the oneness of God] is not correct, your deeds will not be
accepted.
It is not for the Mushriks to build up the mosques of Allah while they are witnesses of their own infidelity. Those are the ones whose deeds have gone to waste… [Quran 9 : 17]
The parable of the deeds of those who deny their Lord is that their deeds are like ashes which the wind scatters on a stormy day; they will gain nothing from their deeds... [Quran 14 : 18]
...Whoever disbelieves, his work is in vain...
[Quran 5 : 5]
Anas b. Malik reported that Allah's Messenger (ﷺ) thus told him:
When a non-believer does good he is made to taste Its reward in this world. And so far as the believer is concerned, Allah stores (the reward) of his virtues for the Hereafter and provides him sustenance in accordance with his obedience to Him.
[Sahih Muslim 2808b]
Imagine if your favorite juice is orange juice, but someone adds a little water from the drainage
into it. Would you still drink that juice? Absolutely not. Similarly, if any form of association
(shirk) is mixed into Tauheed (belief in the oneness of Allah), your deeds will not be accepted.
Tauheed is like an exam where scoring 35%, 50%, or even 99% is not enough. You must believe
100% in the oneness of Allah.
Mu’awiyah bin Abu Sufyan said:
“I heard the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) say: ‘Deeds are like vessels. If the lower part is good then the upper part will be good, and if the lower part is bad then the upper part will be bad.’”
[Sunan Ibn Majah 4199]
If you stay on Tauheed and avoid shirk, you will go to heaven.
It is narrated on the authority of Jabir that a man came to the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) and said:
Messenger of Allah, what are the two things quite unavoidable? He replied: He who dies without associating anyone with Allah would (necessarily) enter Paradise and he who dies associating anything with Allah would enter the (Fire of) Hell.
[Sahih Muslim 93a]
It is narrated on the authority of Jabir b. Abdullah:
I heard the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) saying: He who met Allah without associating anything with Allah entered Paradise and he who met Him associating (anything) with Him entered Fire.
[Sahih Muslim 93b]
If you avoid major sins that are forbidden, then We shall delete your minor sins, and grant you an honourable entry into Paradise. [Quran 4:31]
Three Types Of Tauheed :
1] Tauheed Ar Ruboobiyah
(Belief in oneness of Allah in His Lordship)
2] Tauheed Al Uloohiyah
(Belief in all acts of worship is only for Allah alone)
3] Tauheed Al Asma Wa-Sifaat
(Belief in oneness of Allah in His names and lofty attributes)
The true muslim is one who believes in the oneness of Allah in all aspects.
“Tauheed ar Ruboobiyah” means having the firm belief that Allah alone create, design, maintain and control all the affairs of the Universe.
Allah alone, create and design the universe.
Allah SWT said :
... I am Allah the Lord of the Worlds; (Quran 28 : 30)
He is God; the Creator, the Maker, the Designer… (Quran 59:24)
It is Allah who created the heavens and the earth and everything between them ... (Qur'an 32 : 4)
It is He Who made the Sun to be a shining light, and the Moon to be a reflected light,... (Quran 10 : 5)
It is Allah Who has made for you the earth as a residing place and the sky as a canopy... [Quran 40:64]
Indeed, We have adorned the lowest heaven with the stars for decoration. [Quran 37 : 6]
He created seven heavens one above the other in layers. You will not find any flaw in the creation of the Gracious One. Then look once again: can you see any flaw? Then look again and again. Your gaze will come back to you confused and exhausted. (Qur'an 67 : 3 - 4)
Allah alone maintains and controls all the affairs of the world.
Allah alone maintains and controls the universe, allowing things to happen. He alone provides
sustenance, giving and withholding as He wills, and He is able to do all things. The essence of
this belief is that Allah acts alone in all His actions.
Allah is the Creator of all things, and He is the Maintainer of everything. ( Quran 39 : 62 )
The sun and the moon (move) under a mathematical calculation. [Quran : 55 - 5]
It is not allowed for the sun to overtake the moon, nor can the night overtake the day: Each (can only) stay on in (its own) path (according to the Order of Allah).
[Quran 36:40]
...And We sent down (rain-) water from towards the sky, then We caused to grow therein from all kinds of delightful (vegetation and plants etc.) [Quran 31:10]
Let man look at his food: It is We Who pour forth water, pouring, Thereafter We cleave the earth in clefts, Then We cause therein the grain to grow, And grapes and vegetables And olives and palms And enclosed gardens luxuriant. And fruits and herbage: A provision for you and for your cattle. (Quran 80 : 24 - 32)
IT IS GOD who has created you, and then has provided you with sustenance...(Quran 30:40)
There is no moving creature on Earth whose sustenance is not provided by Allah… (Quran 11 : 6)
Everything in the universe is created, maintained, and controlled only by Allah alone.
Such as the belief that there is someone else who creates, or controls the affairs of the universe
other than Allah Or along with Allah is SHIRK.. Shirk, associating partners with Allah, is the
gravest sin, and Allah will never forgive it.
Allah created humanity for one purpose; to worship Him alone, and that He has placed everything in the Earth as an aid for mankind to achieve this goal. Worship to Allah should be the number one focus in everyone's life and everything else besides that is secondary.
All acts of worship are due to Allah alone; from supplication, prayer, fasting, zakat, hajj, sacrificing, fear, hope, repentance, seeking help, trust, vowing, dependency, obedience and other than that from the various acts of worship only for Allah SWT.
Allah SWT said in the Quran :
I created jinn and mankind only to worship Me: (Qur'an 51 : 56)
Your Lord has commanded that you should worship none but Him,... (Quran 17 : 23)
So, know ˹well, O Prophet,˺ that there is no god ˹worthy of worship˺ except Allah... (Quran 47:19)
Indeed, sincere devotion is due ˹only˺ to Allah... [Quran 39:3]
So offer Prayer and sacrifice to your Lord alone. [Quran 108:2]
Say. Surely my prayer and my sacrifice and my life and my death are (all) for Allah, the Lord of the worlds; (Quran 6:162)
Engaging in prayer, prostration, supplication, fear, hope, vowing to
anyone other than Allah is shirk.
And slaughter an animal in the name of idol, a saint etc, is considered as shirk.
Asma means names, and Sifaat means Attributes [quality]; thus Tauheed Asma was-Sifaat means to believe in all the Exclusive and Noble Names and lofty Attributes of Allah SWT, and not share any of His Exclusive Attributes with anyone or anything in His creation!.
Believe in Allah but to associate partners with Him, that is, to believe that some other beings have the attribute of divinity is Shirk.
And most of them believe in Allah, but commit shirk. (Quran 12 : 106)

Allah! There is no god but He. His are the most beautiful Names. (His alone are the attributes of perfection). (Quran 20:8)
Worship God alone; do not attribute divinity to others… (Quran 4:36)

The story of Ibrahim AS
The stories of the Messengers of Allah are a good example for us.
Ibrahim (A.S.) is a prophet who is tested by Allah and despite severe trials and challenges, Ibrahim (A.S.) was shown as a servant who kept his promise and always showed a respectable attitude. As Allah says in Al-Quran:
and Ibrahim who fulfilled (whatever he was commanded by Allah as a test or as an ordainment)
(Quran: 53:37)
Ibn 'Abbas (May Allah be pleased with them) said:
When (Prophet) Ibrahim (Abraham) was thrown into the fire, he said: "Allah (Alone) is sufficient for us, and, He is the Best Disposer of affairs."...
[Riyad as-Salihin 76]
The lesson for us from Prophet Ibrahim AS words.
When Ibrahim AS was thrown into the fire and was still in the air, angel Jibreel came to him and asked, “Do you need anything from me?” Ibrahim (as) confidently responded, “From you, NO. But from Allah, YES!”
What is in his heart is only Tauheed. For example, Ibrahim (A.S.) heart was not filled with fear. The only thing in his heart was Tauheed of Allah.
Allah said to the fire.
We ordered, “O fire! Be cool and safe for Abraham!”
(Quran : 21:69)
The people, the chiefs, and the priests were watching the fire from a distance as this huge fire was burning their faces and nearly suffocated them. It kept burning for such a long time that the disbelievers thought it would never be extinguished. When it did burn out, they were greatly amazed to find Ibrahim (A.S.) coming out of the pit untouched by the fire. Their faces were black from the smoke, but Ibrahim (A.S.) face was bright with the light and grace of Allah. The raging fire had become cool for Ibrahim (A.S.). He walked out of the fire as if he was walking out of a garden. The unbelievers shouted in astonishment as they felt defeated by Ibrahim (A.S.). Allah says in Al-Quran: “And they intended for him harm, but We made them the greatest losers.” (Quran : 21:70) This miracle shamed the tyrants.
However, after this event, many of the people believed Ibrahim’s (A.S.) preaching of Oneness of Allah.
We need to learn Tawakkal from this (Ibrahim AS) story.
This story teaches us that Allah is sufficient for everyone who puts their trust in Him.
Allah SWT said in the Quran;
...whosoever puts trust in Allah then He is sufficient to him... [Quran 65:3]

Whoever believes in His Lord will not fear anyone.
Why do you fear anyone besides Allah?. when they cannot hurt you nor help you except by the will of Allah.
Only fake believers will be scared.
